Ahmadinejad Speaks at Columbia; Fred Responds

Posted on September 24th, 2007
By Sean in Statements, Israel

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke before a packed house at Columbia University. Before he spoke, university president Lee Bollinger justly criticized Ahmadinejad for denying the Holocaust saying, “You are either brazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated.”

Ahmadinejad’s speech was what was expected. Lies about the Holocaust and the refusal to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist.

Today, Fred issued this statement:

Columbia University gave a public forum today to a tyrant to spread his lies and deceit. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made a mockery of free speech by standing in front of an auditorium of academicians and students and denying the existence of the Holocaust and his deadly intentions toward Israel.

“I find it ironic that Iran’s president accepted an invitation to speak at Columbia University, since students who dissent on Iranian campuses are not met with debate, they are met by a gun and imprisonment. A few months ago, eight college students were imprisoned in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison for publishing articles and cartoons critical of Iran’s government in a student-run newspaper. The Evin facility has been described as Iran’s ‘most feared prison’ and is known to stone women to death. We need to do our best to empower freedom-loving people throughout Iran.

Fred said,”We need to do our best to empower freedom-loving people throughout Iran.”

That is what is neede in my opinion as well.

There are many ways to “empower” the Iranian people and I am sure that the next POTUS needs to consider all options.

I am also sure that Fred WILL consider all of those options and make the right choice.

Right, Nels, we believe Fred WILL consider ALL options in dealing with Iran. Many of my husband’s Military VETERANS are backing Fred because they know he will do just that. All options will be on the table, except inviting him to speak here. Our Vets didn’t put their lives on the line for a foreign madman’s freedom of speech, only US Citizens and our allies deserve that.

If the next administration doesn’t address the Iranian extremest problem, our kids, grandkids. and future generations will have to clean up the mess here at home. Hillary will NOT do anything; Just look at how her husband handled conflict. Fred, sir, we veterans, Christians, and lovers of American are looking for another Ronald Reagan. The cost is too great not to.

In all fairness to president Bush i thought his comment was right. He talked about how it speaks a great deal about out nation and our freedoms that we can invite this idiot from Iran to come here and we are not afraid of his comments, but to the contrary by giving him the chance to speak it became clear what he is and what he believes.

The First Amendment extends free speech to all citizens of the United States. We don’t have to afford the same right or even a courtesy to a beast like Ahmadinejad. Did anyone think they would hear anything different from him than we have heard before? Did the faculty and students at Columbia really think they could “trip him up?” He believes the garbage that comes out of his own mouth. We don’t need to invite the dumpster to our country to see the same trash all over again.

I agree with the statement put out by the Thompson campaign. However going forward I would suggest that if we are to have a web based grass roots movement here for Fred we need to shy away from MSM talking point statements. This is too reminiscent of the Clinton and Bush dynasties.

Next time what would you do Mr. Thompson?
What would you do when the one of the founding fathers of terror first steps off of international soil and onto the soil of America?

What would you do when he made the first footprint on the same ground that was covered in ash from the rubble of the World Trade Center?

I will tell you what I would do. I would present him an ultimatum. Here is the choice:

1. Never step on US Soil.
2. If you wish to step on US Soil be prepared to be sent to Guantanamo for you do not even deserve the respect of the American judicial systems for your crimes against the United States.

Go ahead Fred be bold. That is what we are looking for. That is what will win.

BE TRUE!

Fred needs to be on conservative talk tradio and conservative tv shows like Sean Hannity. Talk radio stopped the Senate “Amnesty” bill and it can put Fred Thompson in the Whitehouse.

Recently I stood beside a lifelike figure of Abe Lincoln in his museum and I though of another tall man who’ll stand tall for America, Fred Thompson.

We need to stand shoulder to shoulder with The Tall Man, Fred Thompson.

I plan on starting my radio ads for Fred next week in Cincinnati.

We face a determined enemy who wants to pave the way for their MAHDI OR MESSIAH by creating chaos.

I disagree with you. Please dont speak for all Vets. I fight for the right of all people to speak their views even if I dont agree with them. The fact we allowed Ahmadinejad to come speak his radical ideas and we challenged his ideas, proves we are the greatest country on this Earth. You must know your enemy, not be ignorant of him. I think it opened the eyes of a lot of Americans to see that he actually believes and speaks these ideas, and they arent just some headlines in a news paper.

This guy had no business speaking in America. Sometimes a platform should never be allowed to people who lie and try to push an agenda of deceat. Though the pinhead president of Columbia U gave a verbal “spanking” to this guy, he shrugged it off as nothing the spewed it lie and dribble onto the audience.
The next administration MUST let IRAN know that we will always be willing to talk, but there is a limit to discussion, a limit of acceptance of actions and that NO OPTION is off the table.
America is seen as a weak country. Polarized and immoral. We need change and fast. Fiscal change in Washington and to uphold the Constitution and values that this Great Country was founed on. Let the message go forth… Change is coming! There is a new day ahead!

What we really need is to be engery independant and let all the Arabs see if they can eat sand. Then maybe we can have a farmers cartel to control the production of food. As far as I know you can’t grow corn or wheat by irragating with oil. If oil can be used as a weapon so can food.

If we spent as much on new engery sources as we spend on war we could be energy independant!

Comment by Darrell Gordon (2)
2007-10-02 16:27:08

But even if we were energy independent, that wouldn’t stop nutjobs like Bin Laden and his ilk from hating and attacking America. That old “it’s all about oil” claptrap is not the entire problem. It’s ideology clashing, pure and simple.

Comment by Richard Percival (1)
2007-10-03 11:05:39

Darrell, I agree that it’s not all about the oil, but it is a big part. If they didn’t have the oil revenue to do things like build a school to teach hate, feed they poor in their community, help the locals so they can then use those people to do their dirty work, then they would be powerless. Idealogy, I believe, is the definite root of the issue, but when they are seen as the “heros”, it’s hard to get the rest of the people to realize it. It’s the same message and tactics Hitler used. Bring the people who are starving food and pride, and you’ll own them. Then, demonize someone and build the image that they are the real problem, and you have people falling over themselves to volunteer.

So, part one, stop the money. Part two, which we already are trying to do, help the people.

I resent the religious slur. If we’re going to be respectful to the ARABS, lets be respectful of the religous people, right or left. Our country was founded on religious principles and
that comment just shows how ignorant or intolerant you are

Comment by Rebecca Hood (5)
2007-10-08 11:41:32

Actually, being an Arab is only in part speaking Arabic. Some Iranians and subgroups within Iran speak Arabic, but don’t *ever* call them Arabs. (Or be prepared to lose a couple of teeth if you do) Being Arabic means being part of a distinct ethnicity, predominantly from the Arabian peninsula. Just speaking Arabic does not make a person a part of this ethnicity. Likewise, even if someone doesn’t speak Arabic, he/she may be Arabic in ethnic background.

Lastly, it would behoove you when advocating tolerance not to display intolerance yourself. Just because the “religious right” is on the PC-approved whipping boy list does not make it any less intolerant in real life. You’ll be a lot more successful in getting other people to mind their manners if you first mind yours.

There’s just one problem: Iran doesn’t have much oil, and they’re about to run out. I’m all for energy conservation, (different budget than the military, BTW…I’ve lived and worked in Washington long enough to know that there isn’t a Great Budget that everything draws from. If it really was as simple as “Take money from A and give to B”, D.C. would have done it already) but even if we were 100% energy independent, we’d still be having these problems.

Lastly, Iran=/=Arab. Iranians have a completely different mindset than other Middle Eastern countries. (In fact, call an Iranian an Arab at your peril) Fred is advocating dealing with them in the ideal way: advocating pressure for Iran to become truly democratic and lending support to pro-democracy activists.

Fox News is in love with Rudy so you will not see them going out of their way to say anything nice or positive about Senator Thompson. Fox News President Roger Ailes and Rudy Giulani go way back… Ailes was a consultant to Giuliani’s first mayoral campaign in 1989. Rudy, as mayor, officiated at Ailes’s wedding and helped to get Fox on cable in New York when they first started… though I doubt a memo was sent out to Fox News Staffers… when you know the boss likes Rudy… chances are you’re not going to go out of your way to say anything nice about Rudy’s rivals.

There is something wrong with people like this and it’s not caused by the water.

I would fully support any reasonable effort to empower the Iranian people, while we do what is necessary to put the screws that regime. If they had been dealt with differently than what Carter did I doubt the current situation would be as severe.

There are no late runners at this point.
What is unfair is that Fred is not getting the coverage in the news media that he deserves. (I don’t know why)

First of all Fred is a Frontrunner and has been since June 07. Even before he announced his candidacy he had led all other candidates except Rudy since mid June.
Since his announcement he has ,on average, tied or beaten Rudy in the polls.

The “Real Clear Politics” average of polls does not take that in to account when they include the earlier polls in which Fred was not a candidate.

I would like to see and average of the polls calculated since Fred’s official entry in to the race. That,I believe, would result in a huge gain by Fred over the other candidates……

Time will correct that “anomoly” and maybe then the media will see that Fred’s base is serious about him and his chances of winning the nomination.

What’s the surprise? Libs are just as much in denial about truth as Achmedinanutjob is. We have him on video demanding the removal of Israel from the earth. And his denial of having said it. We can point to countless similar hypocrisies and outright untruths by the left about history, freedom, and other truths.

So why should we be at all suprised when libs defend giving a tyrant like Mr Nutjob a forum to speak lies from, and then applaud him after he speaks them?

By the time late December rolls around (if not before), my Senator will be blowing everyone away. That’s how he came from 20 points back to 20 points ahead in his first Senate run in 1994 and then won by 20 in 1996 when Billary took Tennessee with a comfortable margin.

Good retort by Fred on the Iranian AbAhmanation at Columbia University. By the way, I have a one-line description of the Left or “progressives” and their peculiar relationship with the Islamos. It sums it up rather perfectly—a little too perfectly. In fact Fred (or Webmaster) would have no choice but to delete it from this family-oriented site. So I’ll save them the trouble and everybody the embarrassment and not even think of posting it here. That’s a promise.

IT CONTINUES TO AMAZE ME HOW OUT OF TOUCH LIBBERS HAVE BECOME. IT DOESN’T TAKE A GENIUS TO FIGURE OUT THAT GIVING A TYRANT LIKE AHMADINEJAD A PUBLIC FORUM TO EXPRESS HIS DELUSIONAL IDEAS ONLY EMBOLDENS HIS CAUSE. THIS ENDANGERS ALL OF US AND IS AN INSULT TO RATIONAL THINKING PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. I FIND IT BOTH INTERESTING AND DISTURBING THAT ONLY OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, MR. FRED THOMPSON, HAD THE INSIGHT TO SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS AND PUBLICLY DENOUNCE AHMADINEJAD’S VISIT TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY. GO FRED!

Have you heard about the new Giuliani fund raiser for $9.11 per person dinner? That’s in really poor taste in my book. I don’t think Rudy has what it takes, although he does try to make sure everyone knows about his stint as a New York mayor. PS. His wife’s phone call during a meeting appears too contrived for me.

Mr. Nutjob (I like that description) speaking at Columbia is basically spreading propaganda to inflame the country. Why we allow them to use our own democracy against us is just a little to PC in my opinion.

Have people lost the ability to think and not see through this?

Go Fred!

Yes, people have lost the ability to think for themselves (that’s why there are so many liberals in the world). Instead of seeing Mr. Mymood Iminajihad for what he really is, they think it’s very “enlightening” to have someone like him come over to this country to give a “differing viewpoint” on a college campus.

Regarding Rudy, it doesn’t take too much observation to see that Rudy is trying to cover his own words previously stated on important issues, e.g. immigration, by using the “When I was mayor of NYC, I…” routine. I don’t think he has what it takes to be President either.

Not sure if any of you have heard this. I work with a Marine pilot who is friends with Greg Kelly of Foxnews. Greg Kelly used to be a Marine harrier pilot and I believe he still serves in the reserves. (I am a retired Marine and still work with the military as a contractor) Anyway, his dad is Ray Kelly the New York City police commissioner. Greg Kelly has told the pilot I work with that his whole family despises Rudy because most of the things Rudy takes credit for were actually done by Ray Kelly and Rudy didn’t have a lot to do with it but takes all the credit. I guess signing your name across the bottom of somebody elses ideas makes them yours. Nice job of claim jumping there Rudy! Cleaned up New York by signing off on someone elses ideas. Wonder if any of Rudy’s claims to fame were his own ideas or if he will rape New York’s finest minds to serve in his cabinet so he can continue to milk off of other peoples genius. The race is yours to lose Fred.

Every time I see this Ahmadinejad I see evil smiling, laughing and mocking everything that is good in the human spirit. Like so many others I question why do we allow such evil in our presence, into our country, give it a public platform to speak or rather to foment its’ bile? Then I also wonder after looking at this evil, if men like Jimmy Carter ever have a passing thought to what transpires after such evil has been given a presence, a country and a world platform to spew its vitriol. I gleaned the news last night to see if Jimmy Carter had made any comments about Ahmadinejad. Of course I didn’t find anything and honestly, really I didn’t expect to. So while we are all condemning and asking Colombia University, why they would even consider inviting such despicable evil into our country, give it a platform and a voice, I find it also compelling that we should ask Jimmy Carter many of the same questions and issue many of the same condemnations.

Why Jimmy Carter did you give this evil, the country of Iran? Why did you empower an exiled radical Islamic leader to take control over Iran? Why did you give Ahmadinejad and his religious controllers a platform, a nation, in which to constantly speak; and Jimmy, what about the Iranians who can longer speak at all, those who have died under this oppression and the remainder who now live in Iran that cannot speak in fear of death? One last question Jimmy, as a former President and champion of advancing human rights, do you feel human rights have been advanced in Iran?

I wish we could call every former President to task publicly for the good they thought they were doing when in service to this country and leave for each of them a book of record in which each of them would have to add their own chapters after their terms as President to write upon the subject of: “why good men serve evil”. For good men often in the interests of the greater good serve most unfortunately an eternal evil. This is a weakness common among all men that is preyed upon by all that is evil.

Yes, Fred Thompson, weakness gives evil an invitation and weakness invites war.

Unfortunately Jimmy Carter did something he thought was good by removing the Shah over human rights and now look at what has been the result. The Shah was no prize but what was ushered in after him is certainly one of the greatest evils we’ll have seen in my lifetime and all of this has a direct bearing on why we are now in this war on terror, in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Sadly the human rights of these people have only been more abused and denied since Jimmy Carter’s good deed in serving evil. All the time good men before they act should think to themselves: 20 years from now what will be the results of what I do today and would I do the same thing then?

I am a concerned citizen. Americans really need to understand the dangers of large government. Have you seen inflation and taxes? Over the years the government has grown to the point of rendering itself ineffective. It is an entity that is run like a business; a business that doesn’t produce anything and is run on taxpayer dollars. FEMA, for example, failed to send paid trailers to New Orleans. Social Security dissolution was caused by “dipping”, and now taxpayers may have benefits reduced and taxes raised. 9/11 was a failure of government in foreign affairs and even border control throughout the 90s; Clinton could have done much more. You think the Mrs. will be any different. So we are accountable for the transgressions of government. Who gets fired?, I check the jobs report and I don’t see FEMA laying anybody off.
Who gets fired for the missteps of Social Security over the years. NEVER HAPPEN. We need an honorable genius of a CFO to really watch big brother be fiscally accountable and responsible. I’ll stay brief because there is a ton that could be discussed on government. It is important to follow federalist views, like Fred, allowing a strong, smaller and efficient central government to oversee the states and their governments.
And like Fred said, it is critical to distinguish between nation and state for legislations and judiciary responsibilities. I believe he can right the ship in office with his “framer” views. Go Fred!

Comment by Dan Fekete (108)
2007-09-25 17:48:20

My Dear Mr Mayer,

Your assessment of government is right on the money.

They now trip over themselves to make mistake after mistake.

Your example of FEMA and their incredible response to hurricane disaster only demonstrates that leadership in an administration’s cabinet needs to be more than rewards for political supporters. We need a team of intelligent and experienced professionals to operate government agencies. It has been two years and so far there are still large numbers of people who are waiting for help on the gulf coast.

We also need a government that responds to ordinary citizens and not just special interest lobbyists. I have said it before in other posts that if we want a government of the people and for the people then we need to disband the Washington Lobbyists. We shall never be able to compete with those who purchase influence. We need to step back a number of decades and reestablish a smaller government that intrudes less into the personal lives of its citizens.

Government is not in the business of legislating good taste, morality ( as they see it) and common sense. Freedom is the right to make mistakes and to be adult enough to accept the consequences of our behaviors.

We are not a nation of universal victims nor should we blindly accept that we should all be hypochondriacs, as media suggests with each play of the “ASK YOUR DOCTOR”, tag line, in advertising.

This is where Fred Thompson comes into the picture, he is our only hope to find a true leader in 2008.

I continue to hear bad press about Fred. How he’s “not impressive” or “stumbling through his speech.”

What is up with this? Does everyone now need a Hellary type media machine behind them to get heard? Is the expectation now that the POTUS needs to be a polished celebrity more than a honest, trustworthy person?
Are the masses so tuned into the celebrity culture that a polished, well rehearsed statement is more important than content?

Geez, what is wrong with people? Listen to WHAT is being said, not HOW it is said.

No more Mainstream media for me, no more news on TV - I give up and bow to the internet.

The problem Lisa is that the only voice of conservatives, Foxnews has chosen Rudy as their guy and are doing all they can to help him along. All the other MSM outlets are far left and would certainly not do anything to promote any of Hillary’s potential rivals in the general election. If we can see Fred through to the GOP nomination, I believe Foxnews will back Fred when they come to their senses and their boy Rudy loses the nomination. Until then I wouldn’t expect you will ever see positives about Fred in the media. They fear Fred and they are hoping if they ignore him he will go away. I have personally written to Foxnews 3 times already to let them know how disgusted I am with their biased campaign coverage. If it bothers you, you should do the same. I am hoping if they get enough negative response from gushing over Rudy and ignoring the others they willget the message.

Senator Thompson: You are dead on. The Columbia President did a good thing in critizing the Iranian from the outset, but it did not make up for the fact that he allowed him to speak in the first place. CBS also tried to take on the Iranian in an interview, and could not get any straight answer from this man on his intentions, however even for our liberal media, CBS did a good job in trying to force the issue.

Our pressure needs to continue on Iran. We cannot stand by and allow any further instabilities within the region.

I have not been this excited about a Presidential candidate since I worked on McGovern’s campaign in 1972. Yes I have grown intellectually since then. Let the federal government do what it was set up to do and leave the respective states to run their own affairs. I agree fully with the previous poster that you have to run government like a business and hold managers accountable. Their is no accountability in the Federal government. Think Federal judges have the only jobs for life, think again. When is the last time an official was reprimanded or fired? Been waiting for someone like Fred Thompson for years! Honest, unscripted answers that not everyone is pleased with. That is the sign of a leader. Other candidates in both parties can not, and will not tell it like it is. I stopped when I read the post questioning the reference to the USA as a “toothless tiger”. They refer to us this way because Bill Clinton set the precedent of withdrawing after losing any amount of casualties in a conflict as if he expected none to be taken. Study the series of conflicts in which Clinton took action only to leave the situation in the same state as it was previously.

The debate was pointless, as expected. The man is labeled as a leader of a terrorist supporting nation, why would we even allow him into the country? I guess democracy demands it. At least we now know what the young people of this nation feel towards the man. I’m almost glad he made an absolute fool of himself and am happy that the media actually reported it semi-accurately. If it had to happen, it happened the right way as predicted.

I hope my comment about the toothless tiger was not off base. I’m in agreement with what you stated.

When Pearl Harbor was bombed the Japanese General made a statement to the effect; “All we have done is awaken a sleeping giant”.

The USA is capable of so much good will and intent that this is taken as turning the other cheek. This is perceived I believe by the loons as being weak.

When Iran proves it’s self as a freedom, God fearing country that puts the rights of it’s citizens before there own interests than we can give him this type of platform in which to speak. It is disturbing that someone like Ahmadinejad can even come to this country and stick his nose at us and deny what history and countless thousands of witnesses cannot. It is time that our politicians, statesman and leaders in this country show some strength and courage and take leadership in the continual pursuit of freedom. You must run a consistent campaign that not only protects America, but also our interests abroad. This election is about securing our borders, protecting our homeland, and making the world safe. It is also about preserving American heritage, culture and traditions. We have fought too hard and for too long to give in to cowards who use force as a weapon. We must show peace through strength, not by withdrawing from the fight but from engaging the enemy where they lie.

As I see it, this crud from Iran has no business soiling the ground called America. I appreciate ‘Fred’s’ comments regarding this tyrant but I have no misgiving about what he is all about. This is not about freedom of speech. This is about a person who is aiming for the destruction of our ‘western’ way of life. He is a sworn, dedicated enemy of America and we should treat him accordingly. As he stepped on American soil, he should have been arrested as a prisioner of war and let our military handle the process under military law. Anything less is pure mockery. It is time for America to admit to Herself that we, in fact, have dedicated enemies, sworn to our demise. Then we react in the approiate manner.

I have personally written to Foxnews many times to complain about their political bias. They are in a position of strength since they are the only right leaning news agency. What Foxnews needs is some good old fashioned competition to challenge them with real fair and balanced news. Until that happens they will continue to prop up their liberally social candidate….Rudy. If there was an alternative news channel I would already have switched over to it. Perhaps after Rudy receives his spanking in the Republican primary they will see the light. Nobody likes to have their wagons hitched to the losing horse. After Rudy loses and the rest of America that were supporting these other guys get behind Fred they will have no choice but to help him win. Their politically biased reporting on this campaign has only served to solidify in my mind that I have the right candidate. Let them entwine themselves with a dying horse that can’t win. They are politically painting themselves into a corner and I am very amused by it. They might want to start discussing over at Fox how they like to eat their crow. With a great big slice of humble pie would be my recommendation!

Back on topic from Fred’s statement:

Personally I think it is good to allow the actual people of the United States to hear our enemies first hand without their words being filtered through the media. We all know how the media twists the facts. We can hear first hand just how vile, uneducated, sick, and irrational some of the world’s leaders are. It is good to know your enemy. Obviously there were a lot of people that wanted to hear what he said. I think any head of state no matter how he became that head of state should be allowed to speak in front of the UN. I also believe that the people of the United States have a wonderful opportunity to listen to both friends and enemies first hand when they travel to the US to appear at the UN. I consider it an advantage the people of the US have over other nations and an advantage in having the UN headquarters here. That being said I do not believe that enemy heads of state should be allowed to visit sites like Arlington Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Pentagon, or 9/11 ground zero.

The denial of the holocaust is a side issue with Ahmadinejad. Its something to keep people’s attention. As an American Jew it is unbelieveable that he doubts one of the most documented events in history. However, to look at events in our times, what about his recent threat that America and Britian and Israel would disappear from the earth? What about his insinuations that 9-11 was not real? and that he did not believe the “American” version of 9-11. Apparently he read the book by a Frenchman that called 9-11 a hoax! That was the real reason he wanted to see ground Zero, so he could see the actual site. He has no remorse for 9-11 and he would have no remorse for creating the same type of catastrophe tomorrow. We need leaders that will not give a voice to an insane tyrant such as this.

Fred Thompson is truly a breath of fresh and new air. Hopefully, he will be able to convince Tom Tancredo along the way, to be his VP running mate.

Fred Thompson is the ONE person that can topple Hillary, and give America yet one last chance to pull herself out of the “tar pit” she’s gotten her feet stuck in.

We have tried the liberal way the last few years: condoms in schools, abortion clinics, increased welfare, yada yada yada. None of it has worked. We have continued to spiral downwards. It’s time for a drastic change and Fred can do it.

As for Mahmoud Amadinejad speaking at Columbia University, it never should have happened, period. It has nothing to do with Freedom of Speech, it has everything to do with National security and terrorism.

Lee Bollinger, in order to come across as popular with his students and faculty, pounded his chest and allowed it. By doing so, he has really ticked off a LOT of serious financial supporters that are Jewish. I hope the school goes broke because of this.

Americans have got to start sending powerful mesages to the wrong-doer’s of this world, not just bitching and whining to each other.

Anyone who believes that the holocaust didn’t exist, didn’t as a child, like I did, visit Auschwitz, which has been burned as a memory in my life forever. I’m an Army Brat, Air Force Veteran and a Navy Widow. I’ve been to Europe, which is not unusual when you are attached to the military somehow.

The one thing that irks the heck out of me is the fact that Iran is the country who held all those individuals as hostages prior to Reagan being elected President. Has anyone thought to check the pictures of those who were doing the hostage taking, and compare them to those that are the “President” of Iran? Maybe “they all look alike” to use a worn out phrase, but it sure seems like to me that “Rub-A-Dub” was one of the leaders of that group. How come when he comes to American soil he’s not arrested and tried for crimes against humanity? That’s what needs to be done — and quickly — before we end up in a war covering three countries in the sandbox. And this is not the first time he’s been here in the last few years!!

I stated when 9/11 occurred that we were heading for WWIII, and I still say the same thing. The differences now is that now that France has a new President, he seems to be smarter than the old President, who was right hand buddies with Saddam. Russia is providing the nuclear knowledge, weaponry, etc. to Iran. Why can’t sanctions be placed against them as well?

Fred, I’m with you for the long haul, and I know you won’t disappoint me. Liberals = Socialism, do we want a leader who will tell us what we can and cannot do, or do we want a real leader who stands behind us?

Deb,

When I was stationed in Germany on the Czech. border I took 15 teenagers [Army Brats} to Munich and visited Daccau. Burned into my memory also.

Those 15 kids learned why their father was there and gone so much of the time [on the border].

We all should have that “privilege”. It changes lives.

Have you told a friend what Fred has said, today?
Try it you’ll like it.

Deb,
I just wanted to say that after reading your comment here, I am really touched about your words abour Auschwitz. My mother was born in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and I realize everyday of my life that if it wasn’t for families like yours, I wouldn’t be here today. Everyday of my life, I strive to make everyone’s sacrifice mean something, and live my life in a way worthy of how much was given.
I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. Thank you so incredibly much for your service, that of your family, and the service you provide as a Patriot Guard Rider! I don’t even know you, but I love you!!!!

With so many global wars and much global economic influence by the US could GW’s view of isolationism ever apply in the 21st century? He always felt uneasy about European alliances and wanted little or no political influence with foreign nations. We were until the 20th century…extensions of weaponry and diabolical foreign leaders were threatening the world. But, it raises an interesting retroactive behavior. With innovative energy, border control and I mean an effective national security it may someday be feasible and long overdo. We can’t save everybody and we shouldn’t try to play that role. There are obvious UN implications, but I think it should nver be ruled out. In situations like this a leader from Iran, obviously, would never set foot in this country. I wonder what my boy Fred thinks!

I am surprised and disappointed that we don’t just seize this guy while he’s here. Isn’t it like letting Osama pay a diplomatic visit and leave?

When some one is murdering his own citizens, our troops, Iraqi people, and promoting the destruction of another country, how far does diplomatic protection go?

note: While we are distracted by this and betrayus ads, Congress is working to pass the AgJOBS Bill which is the Amnesty Bill renamed.

Why doesn’t Condi Rice ask for an invite to speak at Tehran University? Let’s see if Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad can put his money where is mouth is. He says the women in Iran are the freest in the world. Would Ms. Rice be allowed to stand before the Tehran U. students in her American apparell and speak?

I agree that Ahmadinejad should have never been able to speak in the US. But what about Dennis Kucinich who went to Syria and trashed the US, its troops and our country? He and others like him (Nancy Pelosi) should be on trial for treason! How can any foreign country take us seriously when our own politicians wouldn’t even stand behind their troops and country?

You are exactly right! They should be arrested and tried for treason! They all sell out to the one who butters their bread the best, just like Bush trying to let the arabs take over our ports! Why didn’t he just sign over United States while he was at it!!
Oh sorry, HE WAS!

Our troops are the least supported by our government. Welfare and foreigners are treated better then they are. Do you realize how many of our troops families are border or below poverty and yet they give the most, their lives protecting us.

Take care of our troops Fred and hold those accountable who ‘claim’ to be for the American people but are selling out and denouncing America to other countries such as in Iran, Mexico and such!

Shifting gears. How can Gingrich run after his deplorable resignation due to lack of support in the party from 1997-1998? He violated federal tax law, committed perjury to the ethics panel, a coup was attempted and he stepped down. There is no way this guy should try, Fred will eat him alive…Likewise, Bill Clinton was impeached by the House on December 19, 1998 (same period as Gingrich)for PERJURY to the grand jury and obstruction of justice. The left wants Clinton part deux: guilty by association or birds of a feather whatever you want to call it, these two were in office together and they’re both corrupt. Go get them Fred!

just to give you a couple of the obivious ones: The americans staged 9/11, they would not let me go to the site, because it doesnt exist, it’s a movie stage.

*using the applause from columbia* There are many americans who support Iran and want what Iran wants.

The american government controlled media tried to put lies my mouth and I turned them aside easily. *insert creative editing*

I value free speech, and even someone as despicable as Him being extended that right, when it is used in the context of meaningful debate. This was nothing about debate, it was all about humiliating the US in his own country.

Fred sure went over well at the NRA convention. Giuliani didn’t. That’s all good.

Giuliani dropped another point in Rasmussen’s daily poll today, so now Fred leads him by 6 points (27 to 21). This lead may well be because of the NRA convention, which got a lot of press.

Giuliani’s “phoney” act seemed to go bad, and he seems to be getting an “earfull” because of it.

If the NRA takes actions (as some are saying they’ll do)against Giuliani in the primaries (especially in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida), that would be a real good thing.

If Giuliani loses in all of the first six states (Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida), then it’s all over for him even before February 5.

I just came across this article over at the Christian Coalition site. It directly addresses a question put to me here by a couple of different people the last couple of days — would social conservatives sit vote for a candidate other than one of their own to keep Hillary from getting elected.

http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/09/values_voters_conservatives_ad.php
Two excerpts:
“A conservative publisher and author says he has no doubt that if elected president, Hillary Clinton would follow the same disastrous appeasement foreign policy that characterized her husband’s presidency. But he doesn’t think the possibility of another Clinton administration should scare people into voting for the “lesser of two evils.”

“The publisher’s advice to Christian voters, in particular, is “not to be fooled by Republican candidates who now are dressed like sheep” because “we know they’re really ravening wolves.” He also advises individuals not to always settle for “the lesser of two evils.” He cautions values voters to be patient because he believes there is plenty of time for a true conservative candidate to emerge from the pack.”

This guy is mainly talking about Giuliani, but he also is talking a little about Fred. He was the moderator of the Values Voters debate, which Fred skipped and where he was ridiculed because he is against a constitutional amendment banning homosexual marriage.

Regarding the Federal Marriage Amendment (the name of the US constitutional amendment banning homosexual marriage) . . .

A person can be against that amendment for a variety of reasons. Some people can be against it because they are radical libertarians, like Ron Paul. Some can be against it because they are pushing the homosexual agenda, like “conservative” and openly homosexual columnist Andrew Sullivan. Some can be against it because they are against Christianity, like the ACLU and People For the American Way. Some others just don’t care one way or the other about the issue and so don’t think the country should be bothered with the amendment.

But people who do want to ban homosexual marriage should understand this, which is the main reason for the amendment. It is the opinion of Laura Ingraham in her new book. Laura is a conservative talk show host, a states’ rights conservative and a brilliant constitutional scholar in her own right (she clerked on the Supreme Court for Clarence Thomas.)

It is highly likely that the federal judiciary will use the fourteenth amendment to rule that homosexual marriage is a fundamental right, and that will throw out all of the protections against homosexual marriage that the states have passed. That’s it in a nutshell.

If that happens, then that inane amendment that Fred came up with will be absolutely worthless.

I’ve never heard anybody but Fred even mention this kind of amendment he is pushing. Again, it would be absolutely worthless. People who know how these things work, know it would be worthless.

And that’s why many social conservatives are not going to vote for him simply because of it.

Naturally, some will wag a finger at Fred for sticking to his convictions. I submit many more will see him as a man of honor and integrity, and the only true statesman running. He is seen as “most politically conservative” in Rasmussen polls. I would add “ONLY CONSISTENTLY conservative.”

Dear Fred, You should have a few “pulse” issue that could resonate among the rank and file. 1) Education Cash Acounts, (K5 - 12 grade can graduate with over $80,000 in cash) 2) Fair and Affordable Public Housing Ownership Act (The largest transfer of public housing in history)
Renter would receive a 15% rent credit towards down payment who rented for ten years or more in public housing. 3) Voter restoration Act 4) Alternative Drug sentencing Act 5) Pharmaceutical acquisition Act

Our urban strategy should focus on new economic issues that provide opportunities and growth. Target minorities
with aggressive outreach. Buget for the urban jungle.

This speech by Ahmadinejad is another example,in my opinion, of another terrorist using our freedoms against us. Not unlike the terrorists on 9-11 who used our freedom to move around against us. The terrorist (Ahmadinejad) should never have been allowed in the country.

Allowing this bum into the States at all is beyond belief. If I am not mistaken, he himself is in a picture with the hostages Iran held during the pacifist Carter days. That is when this bum made his speech!!! In addition, this kind of decision is one Bubba and Bubette would make, but out own GOP President did absolutely nothing to stop this idiot either. Bush needs to go home to Texas, he no longer represents me. Bush allows an open Border, wants Amnesty, and allows this terrorist clown into America. What the he– is wrong with Bush!!!

I hope Fred Thompson speaks loudly and carries a big stick on these stupid decisions people make in this country.

In the near future this country will be looking for this idiot just as we are bin Laden and then it will be Bush’s fault: we had him and let him go!!!

I too am a Veteran, and I as many before me that gave their live’s, and those who have sacrificed associated with being in the military so that the very Freedom that we have as the people of these United States can enjoy, and I done so proudly, and I would stand up in defense of her today!

With that being said I am appalled that an instituation such as Columbia would allow such a despicable individual as Ahmadinejad to spread his propaganda on this sacred ground…the USA! This unfortunately, which is my opinion is common nowadays in most college and campuses across this nation, that the far left agenda is spreading and teaching in our colleges, campuses, and even our Junior and Senior High Schools.

I never realized until now as my job does not allow me to see the news often that Fox News was shuning not only Fred but other Republicans except Guilliani! This IS not fair and balanced as their motto claims.

I am for anyone to practice their religion, it is their right, but why should a Muslim be allowed to pray in schools and be segregated from other school kids when my kids if they want to do something as simple as pray over their food HAVE to pray in silence??? If we are not careful my friends the Muslim culture will overtake this nation from WITHIN!

Fred I am looking towards your first debate as those running now seem to be scared about you and what you stand for…go gett’em Fred!

Richard Land came out defending Fred today. Richard Land is an interesting example, as constrasted to James Dobson. These are two once similar but now different views on the current political scene — one road that has split into two forks.

Richard Land thinks the most important thing is to keep Giuliani from getting the nomination. He thinks Fred is the one best able to do this, and he thinks it’s all right that Fred agrees with him on most things but not on The Federal Marriage Amendment.

James Dobson disagrees — on several counts.

It will be interesting to see how this kind of thinking develops over the next month or so.

Land has been pushing Fred amongst the social conservative groups for some time. Here’s an interesting article I just came across on the subject (on of all things the site for People For The American Way — a left wing group keeping tabs on conservatives). The article is from back in July, showing Land has been pushing Fred for at least that long.

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/2007/07/richard_land_co.html

On the other hand, here is an article Land wrote in September on The Federal Marriage Amendment which takes a strongly different view from Fred’s.
http://erlc.com/article/a-constitutional-tipping-point-on-marriage

So Land certainly disagrees with Fred, but he seems to be willing to live with that disagreement — in order to beat Giuliani. Dobson, in contrast, is not willing to live with it.

My guess is that Land will move toward Dobson as time goes on, mainly because Land’s thinking is not on very firm ground here. He seems to be emotionally invested in his long time support of Fred and that emotion likely will fade.

The problem with Dobson et al. is that they are holding out for The Perfect Candidate who will conform to their views 110%. When Jesus comes again, he won’t be running for public office.

It simply isn’t possible to have a candidate who does *everything* you want him/her to, and it’s modern reality that you are going to have to decide which deviations from your ideology you can tolerate in a candidate and which ones you can’t. Voters shouldn’t feel as if they have to hold their noses and vote simply to make sure that we don’t have a repeat of the 1992, but they’re shooting themselves in the foot to spite their faces if they decide to boycott a vote just because there isn’t a candidate they agree with on every single issue.

I’m willing to cut some slack for Fred on certain social issues because, let’s face the facts, we certainly won’t have to worry about homosexual marriage under Sharia law. And if one of the more wishy-washy Republican candidates win the nomination because voters aren’t willing to vote for Fred due to some of his stances on issues, they’ll be stuck with a Presidential candidate who doesn’t even represent them on *most* issues. And when they don’t vote for that candidate for the same reason they turned up their noses at Fred, then they only have themselves to blame when 1992 happens all over again.
